When renting a server it is easy to focus on price and CPU; however, the choice of location directly determines performance. If a FiveM server aimed at Turkey is hosted in Germany, ping rises to the 40–80 ms range and players feel the lag. In this guide we explain why a Turkey-location server is critical, how ping is measured, in which scenarios a TR location is a must, and the latency targets on SistemDC's Istanbul infrastructure.
Ping is the round-trip time between the client and the server (RTT — Round Trip Time). It is measured in milliseconds (ms). Even light travels at only ~200,000 km per second in fiber optics; the physical distance between Istanbul and Frankfurt alone means ~5–8 ms of one-way delay — routing, peering and queuing delays are added on top.
Typical ping ranges when tested from Turkey (they vary with routing):
| Server location | Ping from Istanbul | From Izmir | Who is it for? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Turkey (Istanbul DC) | 1–8 ms | 5–15 ms | TR game servers, e-commerce, local APIs |
| Germany / France | 35–65 ms | 40–70 ms | EU-heavy projects, GDPR-focused |
| USA (East) | 120–160 ms | 125–170 ms | US target audience — not suitable for TR |

On game servers ping is not just a "feeling of speed" — it directly affects the server tick and client synchronisation:
Latency above 30 ms causes desync and vehicle rubber-banding. For TR roleplay servers the Istanbul location is a must. Guide: Rent a FiveM Server
Block placement delay depends on ping. Above 50 ms is a serious disadvantage on PvP servers. Guide: Paper vs Purpur TPS
In 128-tick CS2 a 20 ms difference changes the competitive outcome. Guide: Rust & CS2 Ryzen Selection

A Turkey location makes a difference outside gaming too:
SistemDC operates from an Istanbul data center built to Tier 3 standards. Low ping does not just mean "a server in Turkey" — the network architecture matters too:
Current measurements: Real ping values measured from our data center towards Türk Telekom, Vodafone, TurkNet and Frankfurt, Amsterdam and Paris are published on the Turkey ping test page of our website.
Measure network performance before deciding on a server. With the SistemDC Looking Glass tool you can run ping, traceroute and bandwidth tests:
Note: The Windows ping command uses ICMP; game traffic is UDP/TCP. The Looking Glass shows the real routing path — be sure to test before you buy.
What should the ping of a Turkey-location server be?
The target is 1–8 ms from Istanbul and 5–15 ms from Anatolian cities. Above 20 ms is a sign of a routing problem or the wrong choice of location.
Why is a server in Germany slow from Turkey?
Physical distance + international routing. Even fiber optics adds a minimum of ~40 ms; peering quality adds to that.
Ping is low but there is lag — why?
Ping is network latency; lag can come from the CPU tick rate (TPS), packet loss or a DDoS attack. Evaluate ping, CPU and DDoS protection together: DDoS guide
Is the Looking Glass free?
Yes. lg.sistemdc.com is open to everyone and can be used for testing before you buy.
