Did your FiveM roleplay server suddenly go offline? Is your Minecraft SMP being flooded with bot connections? Popular game servers become targets for rival communities and botnets. Game server DDoS protection is no longer a luxury — it is the infrastructure a server needs to stay online. In this guide we explain SistemDC's StormWall always-on protection architecture, the attack vectors specific to FiveM and Minecraft, and how the L3/L4/L7 layers work on game traffic.
Unlike websites, game servers use UDP-heavy traffic and keep ports permanently open. Attackers take a server down with the following methods:
General DDoS guide: How to Protect Against DDoS Attacks
StormWall is the global DDoS scrubbing and filtering platform used in SistemDC's infrastructure. With many providers, protection only kicks in at the moment of an attack (on-demand); during that switchover an outage of 30 seconds to 5 minutes can occur. At SistemDC, protection is always active — traffic always passes through the filtering line, so no automatic rerouting is needed when an attack starts.
| Layer | Protected vector | Effect on the game server |
|---|---|---|
| L3 | SYN/ACK flood, ICMP flood, IP fragmentation | The server becomes completely unreachable |
| L4 | UDP/TCP flood, port scan, amplification | Floods aimed at ports 30120/25565 |
| L7 | HTTP flood, Slowloris, bot traffic, SSL abuse | Attacks on the txAdmin panel and web APIs |
| GAME | Query spoofing, fake players, crash exploit packets | FiveM, Minecraft, Rust, CS2, ARK protocol filters |
StormWall applies protokol-aware packet inspection specific to game engines — fake queries and bot connections are separated from real player traffic.

The StormWall game layer also covers these engines: Rust, CS2, ARK, MTA, Valheim, TeamSpeak/Mumble— on Rust servers, where entity density is high, DDoS and CPU bottlenecks are felt together; in CS2, an outage on 128-tick servers directly affects competitive matches. In both scenarios always-on protection is critical.
At SistemDC, traffic is split into two paths:
Dedicated servers, KVM VDS, Windows VDS, web hosting and game servers are all protected under this architecture — there is no need to buy a separately priced "DDoS package".
StormWall provides protection at the infrastructure level; on the server side the following steps are also recommended:
sv_endpointprivacy and endpoint hardening settings. Is DDoS protection included with a FiveM server?
Yes. StormWall always-on protection is standard on SistemDC Ryzen VDS (9950X infrastructure) and 9950X Dedicated plans, at no extra charge.
What is the difference between on-demand and always-on protection?
With on-demand, traffic is not filtered until an attack is detected, and there is an outage during the switchover. With always-on, traffic passes through the scrubbing line continuously — always-on should be preferred for game servers.
Does Minecraft DDoS protection cover UDP as well?
Yes. L4 UDP flood protection and the game protocol layer cover Minecraft query/bot attacks.
Is there an additional DDoS firewall service?
For high-traffic projects or those that need a dedicated subnet, additional protection options are available in the DDoS Firewall and Layer 3/4/7 categories.
