How do I restrict RDP in Windows Firewall?

How do I restrict RDP in Windows Firewall?

Short answer: Do not leave RDP open to the whole internet. Narrow the Remote Desktop inbound rule to trusted source IPs.

Steps

  1. Connect via RDP (or VNC / IPMI).
  2. Open Windows Defender Firewall → Advanced settings → Inbound rules.
  3. Find Remote Desktop rules and scope them to specific remote IPs.
  4. Add your public IP, save, and re-test the connection.

A bad rule can lock you out; use client-area VNC on VDS or IPMI on dedicated as recovery. Create a support ticket
